I left a couple of hours later with the intention of not returning until the wee hours of the morning. I visited Dad and Brydes to let them know I was okay, then went on to dance practise. I was at the studio for hours as David put us to the test, going over each scene with a fine toothed comb. It was excruciating for all involved, but I loved it.
Afterwards, I drove to the location of where the party was held, at the house of one of the dance crew. I fancied her brother and planned to hook up with him, but weirdly felt like I was cheating on Trent. And to be honest, her brother had nothing on Trent. Trent was striking in my opinion. Not pretty boy handsome like his brothers, but a testosterone-filled masculinity thatâs intimidating, yet horrifically sexy. I crumble even at the sound of his deep, smooth voice, let alone sitting at the damn breakfast table with him.
I got home just after 2am Sunday morning, feeling nervous about his intentions. He admitted that he wanted to sleep with me that night and I prepared myself for his advances. Trent Austin split me into two parts. One part wanted, no, needed his touch, the other part was terrified and quick to reject him.
Heâd left the porch light on and given me a key to get back in and when I opened the front door, I startled to see light streaming out from his office across the dark hall. He was still awake. My heart thudded against my ribcage.
I took a deep breath and stepped inside, closing the door quietly behind me. There was only one way to get to my bedroom and that was passing by his open office door. Running for it could be an option, but then there was no lock on my bedroom door. He could still get in to have his way with me.
Something inside me made me pause at his door, call it curiosity or maybe it was hunger. Here he was, seated at his desk, head down tapping away on his laptop. Did he even hear me come in?
Without thinking and taking myself by surprise, I called out a âgood morning.â He looked up and swiveled his chair to look back at me.
âDid you have a good night?â he asked, softly.
âYes. It was fun.â
âGood,â he swiveled back around and continued tapping away at the laptop.
That was the end of the conversation. So, I went to my room, shut the door, got changed into my sleepwear, then waited for him to come to me.
He didnât.
I refused to sleep the entire night, then when the morning light crept through my drapes, I felt the heavy gloom of loneliness grasp my heart.
When I finally dragged myself out of bed, I found that I was alone in this house made of glass. I searched every room in the house, apart from the one room padlocked, then I checked the deck and the shed outside.
